Managed Meraki Access: Switching, Wi-Fi and WAN
Meraki makes a network simple to run from one dashboard. Keeping that dashboard tidy, the firmware current and every site configured the same way is a different job, and it's the one most IT teams never quite get to. In this blog, we'll walk through our Meraki Access managed service: what it covers, the technology included, how the tiers build and how we run it alongside your team.

Meraki Access: What Is Included in the Service?
Meraki Access is our managed service for your Cisco Meraki LAN, wireless and base WAN. It covers Meraki MS switches, MR access points and MX appliances running in single-WAN mode, all managed from your own Meraki dashboard. We look after configuration, monitoring, firmware and changes, so your team can focus on the business.
It's one of nine service domains in our managed services, and you can combine it with the others in a single agreement. The Meraki dashboard licences for your MR, MS and MX devices sit inside the scope too, so renewals don't quietly lapse.
So where does Meraki Access stop? Once your MX runs more than one WAN link, full SD-WAN or advanced firewall services, the work moves to our Meraki Security and SD-WAN service. We cover its two halves in Managed Meraki SD-WAN and Managed Meraki Security.

LAN and Wi-Fi: How Do We Manage Switching and Wireless?
We manage your Meraki switching and wireless as one access layer. On the switches that means port configuration, VLANs, access policies and stacking. On the access points it means SSIDs and authentication, access policies, splash pages, firewall rules and traffic shaping. Every change is made in your dashboard, where your team can see it.
Why does that matter? Most access-layer problems aren't hardware faults. They're a VLAN missing from a trunk, a port left on the wrong access policy or an SSID that has picked up one setting too many. Keeping configuration consistent across sites removes a lot of those before anyone raises a ticket.
Wireless needs a little more care than switching, because the environment around it keeps changing. We go deeper on that in Meraki Managed Wi-Fi: Wireless Without the Headaches.

Base WAN and Firmware: Keeping Every Site Current
On the WAN side, Meraki Access covers the MX at each site in single-WAN mode. We monitor uptime and throughput, manage the firewall rule base and commission VPNs. Firmware for every Meraki device is validated in our lab before it reaches production, then deployed through change management at a time agreed with you.
Meraki will happily schedule firmware upgrades by itself. The catch is that a new release can change behaviour you depend on, and an automatic upgrade on a busy morning is the wrong time to find out. Testing first and scheduling through our change management process keeps upgrades predictable.
Our lifecycle work also tracks software currency and end-of-life milestones, so you can plan a refresh before ageing hardware turns into a risk.
Pro-Tip: Tidy the dashboard before your service starts. Consistent network names, device tags and port descriptions make alerts easier to read and shorten the discovery stage of transition. Note which SSIDs and VLANs are genuinely in use, too; the rest are worth retiring.

Visibility: What Can You See About Your Network?
You see what our engineers see. Highlight gives you a live dashboard of device health, performance and open incidents across your sites, and the customer portal holds usage analytics at network, client, application and port level. Where you offer guest Wi-Fi, Meraki's Wi-Fi insights add visitor counts, capture rate, dwell time, return visits and device profiles.
That data earns its keep in service reviews. Usage trends show which sites are growing, which ports are busiest and which applications dominate, so capacity conversations start from evidence rather than complaints.
Reporting deepens as you step up. Advanced adds LAN and wireless analytics and reporting, and Critical adds application visibility and ThousandEyes path monitoring.

Service Tiers: How Does Meraki Access Grow With You?
You choose one service tier for the whole engagement, and each tier includes everything in the one before it. Essential covers the fundamentals in business hours, Advanced adds analytics over extended hours, and Critical adds 24x7x365 support for P1 incidents at sites that can't wait until morning.
Essential
Business-hours cover with configuration management of your LAN, Wi-Fi and base WAN, monitoring, firmware lifecycle and standard change management.
Advanced
Extended business hours, plus LAN and wireless analytics and reporting, so you can see how clients, applications and devices use the network. Monthly reporting, a monthly allowance of simple changes and a shared Customer Success Manager come with this tier.
Critical
Application visibility with NetFlow or NBAR, 24x7x365 support for P1 incidents and ThousandEyes path monitoring. It's built for mission-critical and operational technology environments.
If your team runs its own operations and mainly wants help with adoption and lifecycle planning, the Enablement tier covers that without monitoring or incident response. Whichever tier you choose, the service is co-managed: you keep full administrative access to your dashboard for the life of the agreement.

Managed Meraki Access: FAQs
What Is Managed Meraki Access?
It's IPTel's managed service for Cisco Meraki MS switches, MR access points and single-WAN MX appliances. We handle configuration, monitoring, firmware lifecycle and changes from your own Meraki dashboard, as one of the nine domains in our managed services.
Does Meraki Access Include SD-WAN?
No. Meraki Access covers MX appliances in single-WAN mode. Multi-WAN, full SD-WAN, vMX and advanced firewall services are covered by our Meraki Security and SD-WAN service, which can sit in the same agreement.
Can We Still Make Changes in Our Meraki Dashboard?
Yes. The service is co-managed, so your team keeps full administrative access for the life of the agreement. Both teams work from the same operational picture, and planned changes and maintenance windows show in the customer portal.
How Much Does Managed Meraki Access Cost?
It depends on your number of sites and devices, the tier you choose and any other domains in scope. Our free 10-minute business case assessment gives you a recommended tier and the value at stake before you talk to us.
