Managed Cisco Campus Access: Catalyst Networks Run for You
Catalyst campus networks do a lot of heavy lifting: switching, wireless, segmentation and the Catalyst Center platform that ties it all together. Keeping that current and healthy is a job in itself. In this blog, we'll look at our Cisco Campus Access managed service — what it covers, how Catalyst Center is run, and how the service builds across tiers.

Cisco Campus Access: What the Service Covers
Cisco Campus Access is our managed service for Catalyst-based wired and wireless campus networks. It covers Catalyst 9000 switches, Catalyst access points, Catalyst 9800 wireless LAN controllers and the Catalyst Center platform that manages them, along with the Cisco Networking Subscription and Cisco DNA software subscriptions behind them.
A quick note on names: this service used to be called Cisco Secure Access, which is now the name of Cisco's Security Service Edge product.
Cisco Campus Access is one of nine service domains in our managed services. Like the others, it's run by the same engineers who design and deploy Catalyst networks — senior network and security engineers, not a generalist help desk.

Catalyst Center: Hosted or On-Premises
Catalyst Center sits at the heart of the service, and we can run it two ways. We manage it on your premises as a standalone, clustered or disaster-recovery deployment, or we host it for you so there's no upfront server investment. Either way, you get streaming telemetry and 24-hour health views of the campus.
Hosting suits organisations that want Catalyst Center's assurance and automation without buying and refreshing appliances. On-premises suits those with appliances already in place, or with policies that keep management platforms inside their own data centre.
Whichever you choose, the management network itself is protected. The service includes hardening that protects Catalyst Center and the management network from intrusion. That matters, because whoever controls Catalyst Center effectively controls the campus.

Assurance and Automation: Running the Campus Day to Day
Day-to-day operations lean on Catalyst Center's assurance and automation. Assurance shows the health of every device and client, automation handles onboarding and repeatable changes, and software image management keeps devices on approved releases. Together they turn a large campus into something a small team can run well.
Software Image Management
We maintain golden images across your devices and manage the patch and SMU (software maintenance update) lifecycle, so fixes reach production in a planned, tested way rather than all at once.
Assurance and Compliance
Device 360, Client 360 and Network Health Insights show what's happening for a specific switch, access point or user. Compliance reporting shows where devices have drifted from their intended configuration.
Automation
Zero-touch provisioning and Plug and Play onboarding bring new switches and access points into the network with a consistent configuration, and LAN Automation handles day-N changes.

SD-Access Fabric: Zero-Trust Segmentation
For campuses running Cisco SD-Access, the service extends to the fabric itself. We manage zero-trust segmentation with Cisco ISE and Security Group Tags, and provide fabric audit reporting, so the policy that separates users, devices and IoT stays accurate as the network changes around it.
Fabric management sits in the Critical tier and runs together with our Cisco ISE managed service. That pairing matters: ISE decides who or what a device is, and the fabric enforces what it can reach. Managing one without the other leaves gaps.
Pro-Tip: If you run Catalyst Center on premises, confirm you have a tested backup and current support cover before any transition. Both belong on the risk register early, and they're far easier to sort out before an incident than during one.

Service Tiers: How Campus Access Builds
Campus Access builds across three operational tiers, each including everything in the one before it. Essential covers Catalyst Center management and the operational basics in business hours, Advanced adds deeper assurance, compliance and automation with extended hours, and Critical adds SD-Access fabric management with 24x7x365 cover.
Essential includes Catalyst Center management with Assurance Essentials, streaming telemetry, software image management, health dashboards and management network protection.
Advanced adds Assurance Advantage, compliance reporting, 360 insights, application policy, Encrypted Traffic Analytics, Cisco Spaces integration and automation.
Critical adds management of your SD-Access fabric for zero-trust segmentation, together with our Cisco ISE managed service. For teams that run their own operations, the Enablement tier focuses on adoption, training and lifecycle planning instead of monitoring and incident response.
We begin with a structured transition that covers discovery, tooling, a risk register and a remediation plan, then knowledge transfer and formal operational acceptance; most take four to twelve weeks. After that, Highlight gives you a live dashboard of device health and open incidents, the customer portal holds requests, changes and reports, and you keep full administrative access throughout.

Cisco Campus Access: FAQs
What Is Managed Cisco Campus Access?
It's IPTel's managed service for Catalyst campus networks: Catalyst 9000 switches, Catalyst access points, Catalyst 9800 wireless LAN controllers and Catalyst Center, covering monitoring, software, assurance, automation and change.
Is This the Same as Cisco Secure Access?
No. This service used to carry that name, but Cisco Secure Access is now Cisco's Security Service Edge product. We manage it under our separate Security Service Edge service.
Do We Need to Buy Catalyst Center Appliances?
Not necessarily. We can manage Catalyst Center on your premises or host it for you, which avoids an upfront server investment.
Can Our Team Keep Access to Catalyst Center?
Yes. The service is co-managed, so your team holds full administrative access to Catalyst Center for as long as the agreement runs, working from the same operational picture as our engineers.
Cisco Campus Access: Summary
Cisco Campus Access puts your Catalyst switching, wireless and Catalyst Center in the hands of engineers who design these networks for a living. Catalyst Center runs on your premises or hosted by us, assurance and automation keep the campus healthy and consistent, and SD-Access fabric management with Cisco ISE is there when you need zero-trust segmentation. You choose the tier, keep full access, and get a campus that stays current, visible and well run.
